Job Summary: The Captain (Master) is the highest-ranking officer on a cruise ship, responsible for the overall operation, safety, and compliance of the vessel. They ensure the smooth running of all departments, oversee navigation, and make critical decisions regarding the ship’s course, security, and emergency protocols. Key Responsibilities: Navigation & Operations Directs and oversees the safe navigation of the ship. Reviews and approves voyage plans, weather reports, and route adjustments. Maintains communication with port authorities and company headquarters. Safety & Security Ensures compliance with international maritime laws (SOLAS, STCW, MARPOL). Oversees emergency drills, safety protocols, and risk management. Responsible for passenger and crew safety during crises or emergencies. Leadership & Management Commands all officers and crew members across departments. Conducts meetings with department heads to ensure operational efficiency. Handles disputes, discipline, and performance evaluations for senior staff. Regulatory Compliance Ensures the ship adheres to maritime and environmental regulations. Maintains accurate records, reports, and official logbooks. Works with authorities during inspections, audits, and port clearances. Guest Relations & Public Representation Acts as the official representative of the cruise line to guests. Attends formal events, dinners, and public engagements with VIPs. Addresses passenger concerns and major complaints if needed. Financial & Logistical Oversight Approves budgets and onboard financial transactions. Manages fuel consumption, inventory, and provisioning needs. Coordinates logistics for smooth embarkation and disembarkation. Qualifications & Requirements: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nautical Science, Marine Transportation, or equivalent. Certifications: Master Mariner License (Unlimited Tonnage) & STCW Certification. Experience: 10+ years in maritime operations, with at least 5 years as a senior officer. Skills: Strong leadership, decision-making, crisis management, and communication skills.
